2022.01.19 13:34 Fluffy_Comfortable96 When pulling a toilet up, do you need to replace the wax seal?

I accidentally flushed a stick of deodorant down the toilet.
I called a plumber, and he quoted me $550 to pull up the toilet in order to get it out, so I am considering doing it myself.
Based on YouTube videos, it looks relatively straight forward. If I pull up the toilet to fish out the deodorant stick, do I need to buy and install a new wax seal, or can I just plop the toilet back down where it was?
Also, is $550 a normal price for pulling a toilet? I already flushed my deodorant, I don't want to flush my wallet too.

2022.01.19 13:34 Unlikely_Bar6242 Reaper Audio to Microsoft Teams?

Hey there. So I'm a junior at a tech company, and would really love to get this working, as sharing project files can be a bit exhausting when I just want to show my colleagues one sound.
So I've followed some tutorials and they all say to download different things. But I'm currently using ReaStream VST on my master output on Reaper to go to OBS. It receives the audio from Reaper to OBS fine. But how do I then get the audio from OBS to go to Microsoft Teams?
Any help greatly appreciated. Many thanks!!

2022.01.19 13:34 TylerDurden1194 Need suggestions with diagnosing slow dashboard

Diagnose slow jupyter notebook-simulation data
I work at an automotive company as an Analyst and my work is to analyze lot of simulation data for autonomous driving. We use panel/bokeh/holoviews for all the plots and fancy dashboard work. We write most of our python/pandas based code on jupyter. Recently we noticed that the dashboard has gone bit slow and want to analyze what parts of our code in jupyter is causing that. Any ideas on how to diagnose this problem? Any tools that indicates what parts of our notebook is making things slow? I started looking into streaming, caching etc. Am I going in right direction with that?

The package is already flagged out of date, but it's still not updated. Are there any plans on when it will happen?
(The reason is because of a bug with Matlab, which was fixed in 2.34)

2022.01.19 13:34 BoutTimeToPractice I'm having trouble with obsessing over orchestration balance.

I've always had trouble scoring out ensembles with many parts. Even while arranging for marching band, I spent WAY too much time obsessing over chord voicings and doublings, making sure that every part is balanced and every voice is represented. The process usually makes it worse as I revise it.
I've studied symphonic scores across the board, so I know in my mind that certain things will (probably) work. but for whatever reason, seeing chords unbalanced messes with my head. I see trumpet I, II, and III, and almost never cross voices or double the lower two parts. It's frustrating, it limits creativity, and it's largely waste of time.
Any advice?

2022.01.19 13:34 BitBullDotCom Steam's reviews system is not unconstructive and unnecessarily confrontational. Here's some thoughts on how to fix it.

A little over a year ago, and after many years of development, I released my first game on Steam. The game had generally favourable reviews in the press (70%-80% kind of thing) and was sitting at about 85% positive on Steam. Some users were playing for up to 60 hours, I had one blogger name it his 'Game Of The Year', and one superfan email me to tell me it was his 'favourite videogame of all time'. I was happy with this, it's not a masterpiece but I think most people would take an objective look and say that it was a pretty solid example of its, albeit fairly niche, genre (retro arcade shooter).
Last week, at the request of my publisher but with my full agreement, the game went on sale at an 80% discount for $1.99. One of my reasons for agreeing to this is that I thought it was likely to generate more positive reviews, I mean, if people thought it was good value when paying between $4.99 and $9.99 then surely they'd think it even better value for $1.99, right? Wrong!
What actually seems to have happened is the reverse. Because the game is so cheap it has attracted an audience that a) Aren't really into the genre (they're just buying it because it's cheap), and b) Aren't really interested in investing any time in understanding the mechanics (because they've invested so little cash). Consequently I've had a bunch of negative reviews from users playing from between ten minutes to half an hour that pretty much boil down to 'I don't like this type of game' or 'I messed up my first run and can't be bothered to try again'. As I don't have many reviews anyway, these few negative reviews have pushed me from 'positive' to 'mostly positive' which of course will have a detrimental effect on traffic and sales.
Now I know I should probably take this on the chin and stop whining, and there's an argument that if my game doesn't engage a particular user then I'm the only one to blame, but I can't help take this stuff personally to an extent. It stresses me out I do feel that Steam's reviews system is unnecessarily confrontational and works particularly badly for small indies. Here are some things I'd do to fix it.

  1. Get Rid Of Negative Reviews
I guess YouTube has come to this conclusion already with its removal of the 'dislike' count. Allow people to post comments by all means but don't force them to rate something as either 'great' or 'terrible'. Steam already has a generous returns policy so there's no danger of users getting burnt by genuinely bad products, and an overall rating could be easily calculated from the amount of 'likes' versus the amount of installs or similar. I can't really see what purpose the 'dislike' button serves other than to encourage haters to hate and to write a review that justifies it. At the very least they should allow posting of 'neutral' feedback.

  1. Put A Time Limit On Reviews
To 'dislike' (or 'like') something after only ten minutes is patently ridiculous unless the game is fundamentally bugged (in which case users are covered by the return policy). There should be a play limit of at least half an hour before a review is accepted. It's just plain odd that Steam puts all sorts of limits on what community features a user can access without meeting various validation criteria, but they'll allow potentially crushing negative reviews after ten minutes of playtime.

  1. Count Reviews From Legit Non-Paying Accounts
When developing my game I built up a small following of users who'd played the beta and contributed to the development by playtesting and giving feedback. None of them asked for a free key (most of them were quite happy to buy it), but I gave out free keys to a bunch of them who'd made a valuable contribution anyway. Though Steam publishes reviews from these users, it doesn't include them in the stats or rankings which strikes me as harsh as it's hard enough to build up the numbers anyway as a small indie. Obviously they do this to prevent abuse, but there would be simple ways of flagging which user accounts are legitimate (such as the amount of playtime, free keys vs purchased products etc). I'm pretty sure Steam only bases this on the 'I got this product for free' checkbox when submitting a review anyway, which is hardly watertight protection against abuse.
Anyway, I'm glad I've got that off my chest. I hope this comes across as constructive discussion rather than a rant, but I guess it is a bit of a rant. Funny thing is, in the time it took to write this post one user has removed their review after I wrote a polite and respectful developer response. That gives me hope!
