2022.01.24 11:22 silvaf0x Almost 2-year old dog guarding garbage
My wife and I own a 15-pound cockapoo named Gatsby (turning 2 in March) who is beginning to show some concerning guarding tendencies over trash.
Gatsby is one of the smartest dogs I've owned. He is eager to please, picks up commands and tricks like their nothing, and loves people. Just a really well-behaved dog overall. We've noticed lately that Gatsby has begun to find random pieces of trash on the ground (something that fell out of the garbage, while we're cleaning usually) and be super protective over it. He grabs it, and the second we make eye contact with him, he quickly trots away trying to keep it away from us. He does not become aggressive until we try to take it from him. Usually we can simply distract him and take it away no problem.
This morning a cheese stick wrapper fell out of the trash can, and after Gatsby grabbed it he became super defensive about. He gave my wife a good bite on the hand before she was able to take it away from him. He does not guard food, toys, or anything else. Obviously he is a small dog at 15 pounds, so he's not going to be wreak havoc across our street, but we are expecting a baby in April and we want to curb this kind of behavior asap. We're a little stuck since he's so well-behaved in every other aspect. Appreciate any suggestions!

2022.01.24 11:22 load_more_commments Best etiquette in telling a new team you got another job offer? Advice on also how to use it to get a raise/counter offer from your existing employer.
I want this post to be generic, as it's almost a daily question.
However, I always thought I knew how I'd handle this situation until it happened to me.
I got an offer that's 20% more, better benefits (better health plan, more vacation), and a physical location (currently fully remote) where most of the team goes in once a week.
The thing is I just started in a new job about 9 months ago.
I lead a small team of Data Scientists, it's a very nice work environment. The pay is good (though not great), and my boss is such a nice helpful guy.
My co-workers are all great as well and the role allows a lot of research opportunities which I enjoy.
This new offer is from a company that seems to be a lot more fast-paced, the interviewer (my potential new boss) seems like a good relaxed guy and we had good chemistry in the interview.
The new job has higher expectations, I was told I'd have to learn some new skills quickly and some of the stuff is fairly technical. It's also more of a Machine Learning Engineer role versus my current role which is split 30:30:30 Team Lead, Research, and ML Eng.
Fear of switching to the unknown is leading me to want to stay with my existing team.
However, I have a few questions:

2022.01.24 11:22 goofyofthegods 4 Month into a new job and don't feel like a good fit and underpaid. In talks with another company. What do I tell them when they ask why I want to leave after 4 months?
I don't enjoy what I am doing at my current company. Old legacy tech stack, culture fit doesn't feel right and I am being severely underpaid. Will be speaking with a big tech company recruiter soon, but I'm not sure what to tell them if they ask why I want to leave so early. Do I tell them I hate it at my current company or just say I want more money? I feel creates an awful first look at me as a candidate for the team.
