2022.01.21 13:57 David_Walrus LLM if already working in tax at accounting firm?
I'll start working in tax at a top 10 accounting firm this fall after I graduate with a JD and take the bar. I'm considering taking classes part time to get a tax LLM while I'm working. I'm pretty sure my firm will pay for it (I wouldn't consider it if not). Does getting an LLM while already working in Tax help? Does it lead to a salary boost or is it helpful in getting promoted quickly? Any insights are appreciated. Thanks!

2022.01.21 13:57 lallapalalable Is r/pyonyang a joke sub or is it actually run by N. Korea?
I followed it as a joke years ago and quickly forgot about it, now suddenly it's appearing in my feed again. If it's still a joke I forgot what made it funny, just seems like propaganda publications and announcements. If it was never a joke I must have been really baked when I subbed. Now I'm concerned that I'm on a list for being subbed all these years

2022.01.21 13:57 Historical_Drama_242 [Historic] Gruul Ponza Tempo for Historic Ladder
Help improve my deck? Please and thank you.
Why does this deck exist in it's current form?
While the recent addition of control friendly cards like divine purge and portable hole have really held aggro decks down, the addition of Stone Rain has given Gruul a land destruction option that is devestating on the play and has fantastic sideboard options against several decks that top the meta. Traditional land destruction effects suffer from being tempo negative on the board, which left you open to aggro and meant counterspells traded 1 for 1. Several new cards have provided tempo postive land destruction effects as creature ETB's, so combined with Stone Rain as the only sorcery effect, you can finally put down big bodies while controlling the game and tempo with land destruction. This gives your old Gruul aggro deck new life as a controlly tempo ponza deck. The core of the deck concept is tempo plays under curve, and here is the game plan.
What does the deck do well? Lanowar Elf and Gilded Goose providing turn 1 ramp allow you to Stone Rain on turn 2, which is the core of the deck concept, getting you under every counterspell except spell pierce and providing (effectively) ramp against any deck. Hitting opponent land #1 and following that up with a Tyrant onto land #2 is the dream curve of the deck. You if you can then curve a Demolisher onto the elf turn 4, you've hit the god draw and I don't know of a deck that has a chance there. It's the automatic win that attracted me to the deck initially. The new card that enables the deck is Town Razer Tyrant, which gives you a follow up to stone rain that forces nothing but bad decisions on turn 3 for opponent. Even an immediate kill spell on the Tyrant will usually yield 4+ damage from the land as the opp can't sack it for several turns. The additional top end of Sawtusk Demolisher gives you a back-up land destroyer on turn 4, and can turn a gilded goose into a 2-3 turn clock. The final portion of the core deck concept is recursive spell casters like Goblin Dark Dweller and Bloodthirsty Adversary, allowing you to keep up the land destruction while putting down tempo to close out the game. Because you only run 4 spells for actual land destruction and these are more effective on curve, we run less of them and include Static Discharge for some additional recursion targets.
Ch4ndra is a great general value card, and the deck relies on some ping damage and wants to ramp, both of which you get here. Glorybringer is rarely a dead card and is just in general good while playing along with the deck strategy of tempo positive big bodies. Having 10 bodies that survive Anger of the Gods makes that spell a good finisher in stalemate situations and helps against the occasional death toucher like Gonti. Chandra, Glorybringer and Static Discharge combine for a good amount of 4 damage removal, which gives you more reach than older Gruul decks that relied on 3 damage instants that trade terribly in control matches. The sacrifice here is sorcery speed, but you're a tap out deck that relies on keeping opp off counterspells and forcing them to tap out to answer threats, so you are okay with this usually. Static Discharge giving you a 5-6 damage reach is great by itself, but recurring effects mean you can sometimes cast a 7-8 damage spell for 2 mana. Fantastic reach and a way to kill big boys is too good to pass up.
I'm running 1 paradise druid because you really want to play your top end ahead of curve and removal on your early game ramp creatures can take you out of your game plan. It could go, but its come in clutch sometimes. Have a Demolisher mutate onto a hexproof body is also relavent into Fateful Absence and the like. You could move this card elsewhere pretty easy. 1 Ooze is never bad. The deck wants better 2 drops, so this is a purely value pick. The prevalence of graveyard strategies in top meta decks is a big reason he's here, so if the meta shifts this slot probably becomes another Adversary or a Cemetary Gatekeeper maybe. My current 2 drop of choice is Prosperous Innkeeper. You don't put on pressure until turn 3-4, so the lifegain is a big deal against aggressive decks, and your threats under curve is the goal so the ramp is amazing. A Tyrant on t3 is almost as good as Stone Rain on t2. Getting some life out of the deal just helps. I run 1 Ruinblaster because while he can be tempo positive, he is a very small threat and can often be a dead card. He works, but I wouldn't add another and he's often boarded out even against 2 color decks. Ceiling is about where you want for the deck but his floor is awful. Demolisher is okay. He comes out for big Ch6ndra in a lot of match ups, but the static discharge answers the 3/3 he give the opponent pretty easily, and he's mutating onto a goose, druid, or innkeeper most often, all of which give him some additional utility. A flample 6/6 in particular can win games alone. Anger of the Gods is good, and when your Dark Dwellers can use it as a board wipe is incredible. I have cut out Cultivate in this spot, but I didn't hate a single Cultivate here, the Anger is just too helpful in a meta with more creatures than not.
4 Llanowar Elves
2 Gilded Goose 1 Paradise Druid
4 Stone Rain
1 Goblin Ruinblaster
1 Scavenging Ooze
2 Anger of the Gods
4 Prosperous Innkeeper
4 Town-razer Tyrant
1 Chandra, Torch of Defiance
2 Shatterskull Smashing
1 Bloodthirsty Adversary
2 Goblin Dark-Dwellers
4 Static Discharge
2 Sawtusk Demolisher
1 Toski, Bearer of Secrets
1 Arasta of the Endless Web
2 Grafdigger's Cage
1 Elder Gargaroth
2 Chandra, Awakened Inferno
1 Shifting Ceratops
2 Klothys, God of Destiny
2 Roiling Vortex
1 Scavenging Ooze
4 Cragcrown Pathway
4 Stomping Ground
3 Rootbound Crag
2 Rockfall Vale
2 Lair of the Hydra
1 Forsaken Crossroads
**Land Note** : Into Contol, having a Bugbear instead of a Hydra can be big, as the token matters. May swap 1 for 1 here soon.
*Sideboarding and Meta strats*
Against literally any deck, you dominate on the play. Mulligan aggressively at 7 cards for your LanowaGoose into Stone Rain, as your post board is pretty good against the decks your bad against. On the draw, you can sit on a slower hand since your opp will almost always have a 2 mana play available even on t3.
Against mono decks or decks where I notice a lot of basics, Ruinblaster comes out immediately.
Vs Control - bring in 1 Toski, 2 Ch6ndra, 1 Ceratops, 2 Klothys, pull out Sawtusk, Anger, and Glorybringer. Depending on the actual deck, cindervines, vortex, and cage may help as well. Pulling out static discharge for cindervines and vortex is a play ive made a few time that works, but you can get beat down by shark tokens and you already tossed glorybringer, so your removal is light. Ruinblaster is good for manlands here. Keeping them off triple blue is pretty easy and turns off Charm, which helps alot. Against the Lotus Field decks I have been just pulling stone rain and keeping in the glorybringers, cindervines and/or vortex instead. I've had games where the land destruction was relevant and games where it wasn't, so I'm still not sure there.
Vs Lifegain - bring in 2 Vortex and 1 Gargaroth. Giving opponent a body usually triggers lifegain, so cut Sawtusk and either Ooze or Ruinblaster, depending on their lands. I don't generally do well in this match up, but I've added vortex recently, so hopefully that adds some play.
Vs Phoenix - 1 Arasta, 2 Cindervines, 2 Cage, 2 Klothys, 1 Ooze all come in because we play a lot of phoenix. Chandra is slower than you want, Druid and Adversary don't fit, and some combination of Sawtusk, Ruinbalster, & Innkeeper have to go. Landing an early cindervines into Arasta is particularly satisfying.
Vs Food / Sac / Arcanist - Your Cage, Ooze, and Klothys are all great here. Ruinblaster isn't bad with Tower and several weird lands plus low toughness creatures. What you swap here is sort of to taste, but I dont hate dropping the Demolishers again. Opp can operate just fine on 2-3 lands and you can die to cat/oven despite yourself. After that, it's probably Druid/Innkeeper or Ch4ndra.
Vs Affinity / Blink - Ch6ndra **can** boardwipe, and Gargaroth can block. When you can control the boardstate you will be fine, but playing from behind against these decks hurts. Blink is pretty easy to color lock out of playing things, and if you can lock out white thats a quick 1-0. Ooze and Klothys can also eat a blink deck out of creatures, but you can only really get there if they are playing the 60 card version. Against the Yorion version you probably wont ever hit their threshold to turn off Captain. These matchups really play into your "I am great on the play" method, so if you get the draw game 1, you'll need a good hand to steal a game, so mulligan like that. You wont slow roll either deck and win with pings.

2022.01.21 13:57 ebadger1973 Anyone ever work with CD74HCT40105E
I just bought 25 of these from Digikey.
datasheet is here: CD54HC40105, CD74HC40105, CD54HCT40105, CD74HCT40105 datasheet (Rev. C) (ti.com)
All other FIFO registers are super expensive ($10+ each) or must be ordered in quantity of hundreds.
This chip seems to be 4x16 - was thinking I'd hook up a few of them in parallel to buffer writes to my video memory. Perhaps that way I can let the CPU write freely and then manage the timing on the VGA side.
Has anyone ever worked with these chips before or others like them and have any thoughts?
