2022.01.19 14:50 koot94 Sorry if this is a dumb question but is there really a benefit to the Plus upgrade??
I am just trying to understand the point of this $10/month for plus. The advertisement makes it seem like it will be a more beneficial route by avoiding the 1.5% fee for buying / selling but aren’t you essentially moving that same fee to a conversion fee? You may not be paying it per trade but all in all it’s the same dollar value or am I missing something?
Hypothetical example below:
I have $1,000 I want to invest into stock A that costs $100/share. I buy 10 shares which would cost me 10 x ($100 x 0.015) = $15, The stock rises to $150/share. I sell, 10 ($150 x 0.015) = $22.50. All in all I spent $37.50 in trading fees.
With plus, I convert my money to $1,000 USD which has cost me $1,000 x 0.015 = $15. I buy 10 shares again at $100 costing me $0 in fees! now I sell when the price is $150, 10 x $150 = $1500. now I want to withdraw my money, $1500 x 0.015 = $22.50. so again, $37.50
Please explain to me if I am missing something because I am mystified and the support chat is lost as well lol.
Sorry if it’s dumb question and I am missing something super simple

2022.01.19 14:49 Individual-Lychee-74 Elden Ring and My Ritual
Something tells me I'm not the only one excited for Elden Ring.
I wanted to talk about my excitement for the game, and the odd ritual I have devised to commemorate my first experience with it.
First, some personal lore for context:
My intro to souls games was Dark Souls. Just after DS1's release, I happened upon footage of it's charmingly jank char creator and decided to give it a go. I gathered my little savings and managed to afford the game, brought it back home, started as a Thief class. I proceeded to get mangled by hollows. I was shook, as no game I had played felt quite like this. Long story short, I quit the game. I hollowed out and stopped playing it shortly after my first few sessions.
About one month passed. Over that long month, I found myself repeatedly thinking about DS1 and wondering at the possibilities: different classes, leveling my stats, new weapon types I might encounter. I couldn't get the game out of my head for that full month. I finally decided to try again, and now DS1 is far and away my favorite game of all time, with somewhere around 1500 hours sunk at this point, and many hundreds of hours in all the other soulsborne games together.
Now, my whole life since then has been intertwined with the series. My personality has been shaped by the lessons provided by the game. Be observant, conserve resources, pay attention to how your actions affect the things around you, try new approaches, overcome your anxieties for the path before you. Countless personal life lessons, all from a video game series. Funny how a simple game can teach you so much about yourself.
Now, with the understanding of how important the series is to myself, the following might seem less bizarre.
MY RITUAL: I view Elden Ring as spiritual event. As such, I put all my excited energy into planning for the game. Planning builds, deciphering gameplay videos, learning mechanics preemptively, etc. After I consumed every piece of media I could find on the game, I still had not made a dent in my anticipatory energy. I devised a ritual to channel my energy into something productive and structured.
I made the decision that my first build will be a necromancer, but with a small twist. I reinstalled Dark Souls PTDE (not remaster) and made a brand new character. The playthrough was solitary. Few players still populate the world since the remaster came out, and people migrated. I took time and care as I travelled and built my character. Slowly, the lonely knight I began with started to get darker and more twisted by dark magics and arcane items. NPCs began to disappear quietly from the world. Few remain now. The powerful souls of each boss have been gathered. Only the Lord of Cinders himself remains. Even the thin veil of fog protecting him has been breached. Before long, the fire will fade as it was always meant to. On the night leading up to Elden Ring's release, Lordran will be silent.
In the final minutes, Gwyn will fall as well. All his power, the souls of all who inhabited Lordran, they will all be carried forward through the Dark Lord ending, and with the Necromancer. All the lessons, all the pain, the hurt, the fear, the joy, the satisfaction, indeed everything I have gathered from Dark Souls... All of it will travel with me to the lands between as the Necromancer is reborn in a new form.
Thanks for reading along if you made it this far! I would love to hear if anyone else has odd meta rituals surrounding the release of Elden Ring.

2022.01.19 14:49 MsSureFire I've made a tradition of reading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's entire collection of Sherlock Holmes every year. What books do you love so much you always come back to them?
I've been an avid reader since I can remember. Always had my nose stuck in some book constantly. Sometime in my teenage years, my mom bought me The Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection and Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Series.
I read through Carroll's first, because frankly I'd seen enough of the old Sherlock Holmes shows with my grandparents. He wasn't very interesting to me, where as Carroll's series was an absolutely wild and wacky fever dream that was absolutely entertaining.
So, when I finally did pick the collection up, I found myself exceptionally surprised. Doyle's colorful character had been completely butchered and sterilized in modern media. Sherlock was so much more than a heady intellectual with a pipe and deerstalker hat. I became just as enraptured with Sherlock as I had been with Alice.
Doyle's stories made such an impression on me, that every year since then, I read the collection all over again. They never loose their charm or excitement. It's always hard to stop reading, especially when Sherlock has solved the riddle.
The books have been with me so long now, the pages have begun to yellow. The corners are folded or missing. Even so, I love the books to no end, and I plan on keeping this tradition for a long time.
So, what book(s) make you keep coming back time and time again?

2022.01.19 14:49 YoYo-Pete newb question - Do I need to carry the jump and dodge 'tech' items with me?
So just starting FU and really enjoying it... adds a lot of depth to the game. I just finished the vanilla story and wanted to build a big colony but it felt a bit dead and empty other than peacekeeper missions.
So started FU. Doing the mysterious cave intro thing... I got some tech items from it that make me dodge and jump higher... do I need to keep those with me? Or is it like when you want to change the tech you need the items and once changed you can put it into storage?
