2021.10.25 11:13 AstroMunky My First Half Marathon. A success!
This post is mainly for those people who are new to running, have maybe done a couple of 5 or 10k races and are tackling their first half marathon soon, or even just wondering if they should sign up at all.
Firstly, my recent race times leading up to the half marathon as follows:
Based on these times, my goal was to get anything under 2 hours. I wasn't sure how much faster than that I could be and the good people of running had told me this was a reasonable goal and I should manage it.
I had started running almost exactly 4 months before this race and my running history prior to that is pretty fragmented. I'm mostly a strength trainer.
By around 3 weeks before the race, I had managed to get my long runs up to 18km at the weekend (had done 3 at this distance by this point) and felt confident I could do the distance. My pace over this distance suggested I would hit around 2:10 for 21.1km so I was also confident that race day magic could take me under 2 hours.
Well, I am delighted to say that I finished with a time of 1:49:37!
So, for any of you that have similar times for your shorter races (or even a bit slower), just get a few long runs in and a sub-2 should be no problem!
I must say, however, that I did push it a lot to get this time and it was a bit painful the next day, but it was well worth it to smash my goal!
The whole experience has changed my outlook on running for what I believe is the better, too. When I first started, I used to care more about my time for a 5k or 10k and would work on speed through intervals and tempo's etc way too much. When I started to focus on slow easy runs, my times just got better anyway with the added benefit of just enjoying a relaxing run, and for me, it has turned running into a rather meditative activity that I look forward to every time I go out.
Certainly some more half marathons to come and thoughts of a marathon in the further future rattling around in the brain. Why do we do it to ourselves?

2021.10.25 11:13 Tea_tree12 Recovering PC parts after power surge?
I'm curious if anything may be salvageable? I don't know the nature of the damage the surge would cause with a PC. The PC won't power on anymore, but it had good RAM and an RTX 2080.
I'm curious if these still may be good, at very least to take out and reuse or sell.

2021.10.25 11:13 r0ssr0ss Better options in Durham Ontario?
I’ve been a Teksavvy customer for the past 12 years with zero complaints while living in downtown Toronto. We moved to Ajax a year ago and our internet has been GARBAGE ever since. Out internet goes out numerous times a day, we’ve had Teksavvy change our modem, send a Rogers tech 4 times, they’ve installed a signal amplifier. Nothing helped. We’re over it, we pay for 500mpbs and get on overage 4mbps or the internet is out. I’m tired of paying for something we don’t get. I hate the idea of going to Rogers or Bell so I thought I”d ask what others are using instead, because Teksavvy is no longer an option.
