2021.09.23 04:34 captmorgan50 Taper
Remember, the market is very forward thinking. So with all this taper talk going on, the market is already pricing the taper in. So if the market is pricing in a taper as we speak, then Gold/Silver should have gone down. If they actually taper in say December, the Gold/Silver market wouldn’t move because it has already priced this in. The point is don’t wait for the taper to start to think Gold/Silver will go down. Because by then, it will be responding to other information.
I think we still have some time to accumulate. Keep up that DCA. We are still a contrarian investment. As Rick Rule said, 0.5% of the investment community owns silver from an average of 1.5% and a high of 2.5%. Vanguard had a gold miner fund (from 1980s) that it switched to a general miner fund that was later taken down(Min buying of that fund). Correlations of the miners to the stock market are still low(min buying). We got to see what a real safe Haven investment is on Monday because the only things up were Gold, VIX, Bonds, and puts. No one at my work is talking to me about gold/silver and they know me as the financial guy (Check out my book summaries if you want to read something).
Try to keep that debt low, have a solid emergency fund, don’t go all in, and be patient. Been at this 10 years and I am just cruising along.

Speculation on a woman’s body/fertility/pregnancy status is super shitty! ☺️ I wish snarkers would stop doing it!! ☺️ people are allowed to gain weight, wear maxi dresses, hold their arms around their stomachs, and not be pregnant!
I hope every single person who participates in those threads gets asked when they’re due the next time they’re in the store by the cashier. Or whatever the equivalent mild curse would be for a shitty dude participating in those threads.

2021.09.23 04:34 Forward_Visit_1255 Sound and Fury
After informing people that the Japanese study their kanji in "alphabetical" order and that we are taught by their meanings and this might be important. Look at the two "posters", one from the West and the Other from Japan (just select images when you search) You'll see that the Japanese's first grade chart has One, Right (as in right and left) and Rain as their first three kanji. Ichi, U, and U again for rain. "U"). The West has it one, two, and three. Ichi, Ni, San. I was concerned when I discovered this. That maybe this is just one part of our issues studying Japanese. We haven't be studying Japanese all that long. In many ways we are just starting to learn to learn Japanese. In all seriousness, maybe we've whiffed and the Japanese have a good reason - a LOGICAL reason - for studying the Kanji this way. The obvious answer is yes, it does. They had a lot of time to think it over and we still haven't gotten over Heisig! Studying the pronunciations sheds light on the kanji shape and their relationship with other kanji. Similar shapes and forms in the kanji often indicate a sound association. Sometimes the association is subtle. Sometimes it's pretty obvious. There is nothing gained by learning the kanji for yellow is yellow and that this yellow sits right next to the kanji for, say, red. Nothing gained there. In fact, meanings conflate with other meanings and other kanji. The brain is rightly confused. Was it this kanji? Or was it that kanji. And this one was supply, right? And that "Demand"? (Typical conversation, no?)
There was only one follower that had an explanation. The answer was that teaching to Westerners is different since people are often focused on a particular subject, like Business. No use learning the non-business kanji, right? Well, the problem with that theory is that we learn the SAME kanji as the Japanese whether business or not. The 2,136 is the same 2,136 whether we are taught the English way - the meanings uber all or the Japanese way. I vote for the Japanese way since by 8th grade they have learned a thousand plus kanji. It might even be quite a bit more. They are still learning the kanji in high school. I know that! But I wish I could say that I was that quick. I've been studying the meanings for years and what do I have to show for it: a pile full of index cards spinning around in the wind.
I was also told I was wasting my time. Why? Because nobody will listen to you. I guess he was right on that score. But it's sort of sad to think that somebody is going to view my ideas as suspect or suspicious. Like why would anyone want to waste their time SHARING things they learned instead of asking, asking and asking. How about sharing the knowledge instead of just asking the knowledge. We'd be a lot faster getting to our destination. If I was really wasting my time I'd be talking about the Red Sox. As I was watching them on ESPN. They were playing the Mets at Fenway Park. Boston was all decked out wearing Yellow! I kid thee not. Yellow. Yes. Almost illogical. But they had a reason. I mean even if I didn't know the reason or that they had any reason I would still assume they were doing it for a reason. Anyways, I saw a few people in the stands wearing masks and I said - to my companion - "What is this? Maskachusetts!!!
Hardy Har Har. Remember shapes and sounds may be the key. That the Japanese are rational thinkers and should not be so easily be dismissed. Shapes and sounds. Sounds bending the kanji in unique and powerful ways....

2021.09.23 04:34 MJE0409 Pediatrician suggested my 5 year old son may have aspergers - wife adamantly opposed to speaking with an expert (wants to avoid a “diagnosis”)
TLDR at bottom
I’m a 35 year old father of three. My oldest is my 5 year old son. He is a smart, interesting, creative, funny, good hearted kid. We love him because he’s exactly who he is, not “in spite of” who he is.
We’ve noticed since he was 3 that he had some unique things about him. His language skills were fairly advanced early on, he was finishing 500+ piece puzzles at 4, would sit and do complicated lego sets for hours at a time, could remember movie lines verbatim from movies he had seen once a year prior. That said, he also has had trouble making friends in the past, and doesn’t always understand when he’s bothering others, scaring them, or even sometimes hurting them. (for example, in preschool last year he would tell us about how many friends he had at school, only to hear from his teachers mid-year that he didn’t actually talk to them, he just played his “monster game” on the playground where he chased them around growling, and never really stopped even when the kids were getting annoyed or scared.
One other example is that he has a very hard time staying in the present for a wide variety of things. For example, in his last soccer game, during about half of the time, he would be chasing down the ball just like the other kids. Other times, out of nowhere he would just stop and start having a conversation with himself full of very animated hand gestures while the other kids continued to play the game. At one ping the quarter ended and the coach had to physically go tap him on the shoulder to get his attention, as he literally wasn’t hearing everyone calling him to come back over to the sideline.
The good news is, this year is his first year of kindergarten and by all accounts he’s “in his element” in a traditional classroom environment, and doing much better. He still has a lot of struggles with understanding the feelings and reactions of others. It’s not because of a lack of intelligence - quite the opposite. Tonight he came up to me for no reason, not out of anger, and poked me directly in the eye. He claimed he had “no idea” why he did it, but when I asked him why that wasn’t ok, he verbally explained in detail why that probably hurt/scratched my eye, which is “tender”, and it’s probably not good to do.
The idea of having him see a counselor came out from our new pediatrician, who didn’t know anything about the above, suggested aspergers as a possibility just from the time spent with hi. during his annual checkup. (based mostly on his sensory responses to the exam and his chat with him)
So to our quandary, i’m very much in favor of taking our pediatrician’s advice and seeing some of their in house counselors, just to see how they can help and give us ideas on how to be more effective and loving parents to him, as well as help him live a more fulfilled and happy life. My wife is adamantly opposed. and says she believes a diagnosis will permanently alter how we view him, whether we like it or not, and result in special treatment (in a bad way) by teachers, doctors, peers, etc the rest of his life. She feels that they will try to “fix” him and she doesn’t feel like he’s broken. Of course I don’t view him as “broken” - quite the opposite, he’s such an interesting and lovable kid and I love him for who he is. What are everyone’s thoughts for an otherwise high functioning 5 year old?
TLDR: 5 yo son shows signs of aspergers as pointed out by pediatrician. I want to at least see the counselor as pediatrician recommended, she feels a diagnosis and attempts to “fix” him would be overwhelmingly negative.
